3D / 4D Scan (Cont.)
If we feel within a short time of commencing the scan that the images will not be good, we will advise you of this and you will be offered the option of repeating the scan at a future date at no extra charge. It is advisable not to attend for more than one rescan as this is unlikely to improve image quality.
During the scan we will also perform a weight, fluid and placenta check of your baby using the normal 2D ultrasound method as used in your hospital scan. We will then proceed with your 4D ultrasound scan.
If during the course of the scan an abnormality of the baby is detected we will, with your permission contact your doctor or midwife in- charge of your care to pass on the relevant information. The finding of a normal USS however does not guarantee a healthy baby.
In preparation for the scan we would recommend the following:
- Make sure you have eaten something before you come in , as an empty stomach can sometimes
make for a sleepy baby! - Thankfully you don’t need to fill your bladder for this scan but some fluid in the bladder
will help in the positioning of the baby for a better image so please don’t empty your
bladder directly before your scan. - You may bring close family members or a close friend but it is advisable to limit the
number to 2 people if possible.
Your realtime images will be recorded on a DVD for you to take home and you will also be given black&white and colour images of your baby to keep.
